AN ENAMELED AND GEM-SET GOLD NAVARATNA PENDANT

Of lobed polylobed (shamsah) contour, the reverse of this royal pendant is decorated in vivid polychrome champlevé and basse-taille enameling (meenakari). Set against an opaque white enamel ground, the central field features a flowering plant motif (buta) executed in translucent ruby red and rich emerald green enamels with fine gold detailing. The pendant terminates at the base with a suspended drilled emerald drop (lorkan) and is topped with a decorated suspension loop.

The obverse (front) is set using the traditional Kundan technique with nine cosmic gemstones (Navaratna), arranged in accordance with traditional Indian astrological principles around a central stone.
